More love for the late Dr Iain West, forensic pathologist, who died on 23 July 2001 in Hastings, East Sussex. We have used vox tapes from West on a number of times in the past eg 1986's 'I Have Come Back Deborah'. It is in keeping with the whole revisiting that era theme of the record.

Here he talks about the murder of Yvonne Fletcher, a Metropolitan Police officer, on 17 April 1984, when she was fatally wounded by a shot fired from the Libyan embassy on St James's Square, London.

Yvonne was struck by a single bullet which hit her in the back at a very steep angle, something like this...the bullet then passed downwards through the lower part of the chest, through the liver, passing out of the liver, striking the spine, bouncing from the spine and beginning to tumble. It then severed the main vein of the lower part of the body, cut through the pancreas and re-entered the liver. It passed out of her chest in this region here and immediately entered the inside of her elbow, it was tumbling when it did so. And the elbow must have been in contact with the skin of her chest at that time. I think the only way I can explain the characteristics of the wounds on the elbow and on the front of the chest, and the angle at which the bullet struck is by ...

Narrator: Had the bullet been fired from the Libyan bureau? The Libyans who had been inside at the time of the shooting left 10 days later protected by diplomatic immunity. The police then began to search the square for bullets. Witnesses had agreed that a gun was fired from within the bureau, but could it be proven? the search produced 10 bullet fragments. Along with the bullet from the ambulance, and one from the wounded demonstrator, they were examined in the gun room.
